Description:
Asian Languages Computational Linguist
We are currently seeking an experienced Computational Linguist to join our
R&D team in San Diego, CA USA developing natural language machine
translation systems.
In this position, under the direction of the Program Manager, you will be
responsible for or a major contributor to the development of rule-based,
statistical and hybrid natural language machine translation systems for
Asian languages including Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Tajik, Urdu, and
Chinese.
Primary Responsibilities:
-Maintain and enhance rule-based translation modules of existing and new
language pairs.
-Develop and deploy statistically-based techniques for enhancement of both
rule-based and statistical machine translation systems.
-Supervise the acquisition and processing of corpora, monolingual and
multi-lingual, in the above languages.
-Supervise the encoding of lexical and linguistic rules of existing and
new language pairs.
-Stay abreast of and utilize leading-edge techniques as reported in
journals and technical conventions in the Natural Language Processing (NLP)
space.
-Plan, execute and report status on multi-person MT projects in pursuit of
increased translation quality, efficient operation and specific customer
requirements.
Required Skills:
-Native or fluent speaker, reader and writer of at least one of the above
languages as well as English.
-Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Computer Science
-Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Natural Language Processing
-Very good C/C++ and script (Perl, Python, AWK, etc) programming skills.
Required Experience:
-At least one full product development cycle developing production software
in a commercial environment including familiarity with version control
tools and real-world software development life cycles.
-Commercial experience developing Machine Translation systems a plus.
