The Rosetta Stone Labs Department is seeking an experienced software
developer with linguistics background to assist in a wide variety of
corporate research and development needs. The candidate will work with a
cross-discipline team of researchers and software developers in Boulder
Colorado who are dedicated to providing innovative solutions to enhance
foreign language learning experience through speech technology. Please

Duties & Responsibilities:
-Develop, maintain, and optimize phonetic dictionaries for Rosetta Stone
products incorporating speech recognition
-Optimize speech technology performance through data analysis
-Work with a cross-functional team in a Scrum/Agile software development
environment
-Work collaboratively with world-class speech technology experts to meet
research and development goals
-Deliver high-quality software on a frequent basis
-Interact with project stakeholders to develop and refine requirements
-Collaborate with other software professionals to design/implement software
applications
-Refactor existing code for performance, scalability, and maintainability
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
-Knowledge of phonetics and phonetic representations (IPA, SAMPA)
-Experience in developing cross-platform software: Linux, Windows, Mac OS X
-Strong server-side development experience on Unix/Linux
-Experience with software design patterns and best practices
-Ability and initiative to drive projects is a must
-Strong problem solving skills and ability to troubleshoot issues
-Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
-Interest and experience with foreign languages
Minimum Requirements:
-BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Linguistics
(with computational focus) or a closely related speech/language technology
field
-Ability to quickly learn new technologies and application domains
-Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
-Ability to develop simple, elegant solutions to complex problems
-Enjoy working in a fast-paced dynamic environment with talented professionals
-Ability to quickly adapt to a rapidly growing software organization
-Excellent technical communication skills
-Excellent scripting skills (Ruby, Perl, or Python, php, bash, csh)
Preferred Skills and/or Education:
-2+ years experience developing software in C/C++, Java, Python and/or
Flex/ActionScript 3
-Practical knowledge of academic and/or commercial speech recognition
technologies
-Knowledge or related education in Linguistics, Language Learning /Acquisition
