Description:
The Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies at the University of Bielefeld will be appointing a Full Professor ('W3-Professur') for General Linguistics at the earliest possible opportunity. The successful applicant will cover the full breadth of the field of General Linguistics and be familiar with current research methods and approaches to the theory of grammar, with a research profile in the areas of syntax and pragmatics/sementics of natural languages. A specialisation in comparative linguistics is expected, if possible involving one or more Indo-European languages. The successful candidate must be prepared to cooperate in the consortial research in which linguistics in Bielefeld is involved (Special Research Group 273 'Alignment in Communication' and the Excellence Cluster 'Cognitive Interaction Technology'), and will be responsible for teaching and student supervision in the linguistics B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. programmes. The conditions for appointment are a completed course of university studies and a first class doctorate in a relevant field, with additional scientific achievements whose evaluation will be restricted to the current hiring procedure (§36 HG legal requirement).
