Description:

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at The University of Texas at Austin
will offer several merit-based graduate scholarships for outstanding applicants
who enroll in Spanish Linguistics for Fall 2010.

Select applicants entering the Ph.D. will receive generous, five-year packages
that will include highly competitive stipend, multiple-year teaching releases,
professional development support, and pre-dissertation research funding.

Linguistics students in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese gain a strong
background in both applied and theoretical linguistics through coursework and
research within the department and in allied departments. Main areas include
phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Subfields
include historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, bilingualism and language
contact, dialectology, and second language acquisition.
