Full Title: The 6th International ELT Research Conference Date: 14-May-2010 - 16-May-2010 Location: Ephesus/Selçuk-İzmir, Turkey Contact Person: Ismail Hakkı Erten Meeting Email: conference comuelt.com Web Site: http://www.comuelt.com Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics; Language Acquisition; Sociolinguistics Subject Language(s): English (eng) Call Deadline: 15-Jan-2010 Meeting Description: On 14-16 May 2010, as Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, ELT Department, we will be organizing our 6th International ELT Research Conference in one of the most interesting resorts in Turkey: Selçuk, İzmir-Turkey. Selçuk is home to the beautiful ancient Roman city of Ephesus and the House of Virgin Mary. Further information about the venue can be obtained at http://www.selcuk.bel.tr/ . Call for Papers The 6th International ELT Research Conference aims to provide the highest calibre of ELT research through our keynote speakers, a large number of scholars and presenters, and scientific and cultural exchange within a friendly, informative and stimulating atmosphere. This year we are honoured to have distinguished scholars as our keynote speakers: Ayşe Akyel (Yeditepe University, Turkey); Bob Burden (University of Exeter, UK); Cem Alptekin (Boğaziçi University, Turkey); Nick Ellis (Michigan University, USA); and Tony Lynch (Edinburgh University, UK). We believe our invited speakers will turn the event into a truly learning experience. We also expect many international ELT researchers to choose our biannual event as an outlet for their research findings. Postgraduate student stipends will be available as attending conferences can cost more than some of us can afford. So far we have managed to raise enough money to finance three postgraduate presenters. However, we are constantly seeking to raise more money. We really hope to make this event possible for those who really deserve. The conference is also supported by two international journals, International Journal of Research in ELT and Journal of Theory and Practice in Education. Selected papers will be considered and given priority for publication in these journals. International Journal of Research in ELT is a newly established research journal to be published by Educational Research Association, Turkey, http://eab.org.tr/ and will be first launched in January 2011 with selected papers/articles from the conference programme while Journal of Theory and Practice in Education http://eku.comu.edu.tr will publish a special issue on SLA research and language teaching in 2010. Proposals for oral presentations, workshops, and poster presentations are invited on the following (but not limited to) themes: Language Learning and Acquisition Teacher Training and Education Approaches and Methods in English Education English Language Curriculum and Teaching Materials Culture and Literature in English Education Language Testing and Evaluation Early English Education Multimedia and ICT in English Education Translation Studies & Language Teaching Life-long Language Learning Intercultural Communication English as an International Language Lingua Projects Speakers can choose to do an oral presentation (30'), a workshop (45'), or a poster presentation. Speakers are expected to submit a minimum 500-word structured abstract via our electronic submission system at http://www.comuelt.com until January 15, 2010. All proposals will be blind-reviewed by the Screening Committee for scope and quality.
