Description:
The School of Language & Literature is looking to recruit a Research Assistant for an AHRC funded project Fisher Speak: Variation and Change in the Lexis of Scottish Fishing Communities. As this post is funded by external funds it will be offered until 31 March 2011. As part of the project looking at variation and change in the lexis of Scottish fishing communities, the successful candidate, along with the principal investigator, Dr Robert McColl Millar, will be involved in the creation and application of research instruments to study lexical change and attrition in the lexical patterns of a representative sample of Scottish fishing communities and contribute to the writing up of the project's findings. You should have a PhD in Sociolinguistics, Dialectology and/or Historical Linguistics, with a fair understanding of recent statistical packages along with sound IT skills. Some knowledge of the Scottish linguistic situation would also be helpful. Due to the nature of work a driving license or access to independent means of transport are essential. Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 5 scale (£24,877- £26,391 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience.
