Position Announcement: Director of Applied Linguistics Research and Development Job Description: EF Education First is accepting applications for a professional linguist to be part of shaping the future of language learning and teaching. As Director of Applied Linguistics Research and Development, you will have a varied and flexible role providing academic guidance and creative input into the design and delivery of language instruction and assessment in EF's worldwide programs. You would also be involved in special projects, such as designing curricula for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil (EF is the official language training supplier), hosting teacher training seminars across Central Asia (EF opens new markets every year and you're the first in), speaking at a press conference in Beijing to launch an e-learning system for young learners (that you helped create), publishing learning media for use worldwide by millions of students (email, mobile, digital, print), and conducting research on learning tools and techniques (coordinating with EF's Research Unit at the University of Cambridge and our Learning Technologies Group in Shanghai). You will jointly report to the head of academic research and development and to the relevant EF product president and serve as an academic liaison internally and externally. Salary is commensurate with experience. The starting location for the position will be London, Zurich or Shanghai. In addition, they should have wide international work and travel experience, familiarity with the international education market, a demonstrated public speaking record, and a passion for the opportunities that new media and technology provide for effective learning, teaching, and assessment. Candidates who will be in possession of the doctorate within the next 6 months will be considered.
