Query for this summary posted in LINGUIST Issue: 20.198
Dear Linguist List Readers,

A few weeks ago, I posted a request for references and links to equivalents
of West’s (1953) General Service List, a frequency ordered list of basic
English vocabulary for the following languages.

Here is a summary of responses:

- French
Gougenheim’s Francais Fondamental
Gougenheim, G., Michéa, R., Rivenc, P., Sauvageot, A. 1956 / 1964.
L'Elaboration du Français Fondamental (1er degré). Paris: Didier.
Gougenheim, G., Rivenc, P., Hassan, M. 1964. Le français fondamental.
Tendances Nouvelles en Matière de Recherche Linguistique. L'Education en
Europe, 5/2, p.72.
Gougenheim, G. 1958 / 1977. Dictionnaire Fondamental de la Langue
Française. Paris: Didier.

Further to the above, it was suggested that the Common European Framework
includes word lists – unfortunately, I have not managed to find them as yet.

Thanks to Michael Alvarez-Pereyre, Carmela Chateau, Alex Boulton and Israel
Cohen for their contributions.
