Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Turkic languages at the Department of Linguistics and Philology, Uppsala University See the full text of the announcement at: http://www.personalavd.uu.se/ledigaplatser/1642unlekt_eng.html Duties: The post comprises teaching, research, and administration. Teaching primarily involves courses in Turkic languages and literatures with special emphasis on Turkish. Teaching also includes responsibility for courses and course administration as well as supervision of undergraduates and doctoral candidates. Duties also comprise staying abreast of developments in the holder's own subject area, and of societal developments in general that are of importance to working at the University. Eligibility requirements: Under the Higher Education Ordinance, applicants are eligible for employment as Assistant Professor (Senior Lecturer) if they hold a doctoral degree or have the equivalent academic competence, have completed training in tertiary-level teaching or acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways, and have demonstrated competence in teaching. The post requires excellent skills in using Turkish in speech and writing, and good proficiency in English as well. A knowledge of Swedish is a desirable qualification. The holder of the post will be expected to be able to teach in Swedish after no more than two years of employment. Assessment criteria: In the ranking of eligible applicants equal consideration will be given to academic competence and teaching skills. Academic competence in synchronic, diachronic, and comparative Turkic linguistics with the main emphasis on Turkish, including Ottoman Turkish, and a non-Oghuz Turkic language is necessary for the position. Attention will also be paid to experience in teaching Turkic literatures as well as social and historical backgrounds. Equal care will be taken in scrutinizing teaching skills and academic competence. Assessment of teaching ability will consider planning, production of own teaching materials, execution, and evaluation of teaching as well as thesis direction and examination.
