Meeting Description:
The International Conference of Graduate Students hosted by the CERCI (Centre de
Recherche sur les Conflits d'Interprétation) of the Université de Nantes seeks
to question the relationship between meaning and representation and to identify
the conflicts that lie therein. The dichotomy of meaning/representation will be
explored through several domains: literature, art, theatre, cinema, linguistics,
civilization, sociology and information and communication science.
Call for Papers
The conference will be centered on two main axes:
The first axe will focus on cultural representations of 'Others' which are
constructed and reconstructed through different types of creative and artistic
activities as well as in daily myths and rituals. The goal is to highlight the
conflictual nature of representations that can occur in the creation and
interpretation of texts. Papers which analyse representations of 'Others'
through images, memoirs and oral and written discourse are
particularly welcome. Papers relating to, but not limited to, the following
themes are solicited:
- Images and representations : spheres of interpretation
- Collective memoirs and linguistic representations
- Cultural stereotypes and interpretational conflicts
- Literature and identity
- Hermeneutics culminations: invention of meaning?
- Genealogy of models, critiques of modeling
The second axe, construction and representation of meaning, will investigate
interpretational conflicts that are brought to the forefront through linguistic
representations constructed by discourse whether it be in verbal interaction,
second or foreign language acquisition/learning, or in identity construction
through intercultural communication. This axe is also open to any initiative
aiming to study tools for the interpretation and analysis of text and discourse
through an approach anchored in meaning construction. Papers relating to, but
not limited to, the following themes
are solicited:
- Linguistic representations and verbal interactions
- Discursive representation and identity construction
- Second/Foreign language acquisition/learning and communicational intricacies
- Meaning and signification : models of interpretation
- Cognition, stereotypes and prototypes
This conference welcomes contributions from doctoral students, post-doctoral
researchers and masters students as well any new researcher susceptible to being
interested in this area of expertise.
A selection of peer-reviewed conference articles will be published.

The conference will include both oral presentations (20 minute presentation +10
minute discussion) and a poster session.
Abstracts should be typed in Times New Roman font, size 12 and single spaced.
For oral presentations abstracts should be no longer than 500 words and for
posters, 250 words. (References not included) Abstracts should be sent to the

Le Colloque International des Jeunes chercheurs du CERCI se donne pour objectif
d'interroger le rapport étroit entre le sens et la représentation et
d'identifier les conflits qui en découlent. La dualité sens/représentation sera
envisagée dans le domaine littéraire, artistique,théâtral et cinématographique,
linguistique, civilisationniste, sociologique et dans celui des sciences de
l'information et de la communication. Il s'articule autour de deux axes principaux :
Le premier axe se focalise sur les représentations culturelles d'Autrui qui se
construisent et se reconstruisent à travers toutes sortes d'activités
artistiques ou créatives aussi bien que dans les rituels et mythes du quotidien.
Il essaie de faire surgir les conflits représentationnels qui peuvent apparaître
lors des créations/interprétations des textes. Tout type d'analyse des
représentations d'Autrui (image, mémoire, écrit, discours, etc.) sera sollicité.
Thématiques suggérées :
- Images et représentations : espaces d'interprétation
- Mémoires collectives et représentation linguistique
- Stéréotypes culturels et conflits d'interprétation
- Identités et écrits littéraires
- Fins de l'herméneutique, l'invention du sens ?
- Généalogie des modèles, critique de la modélisation.
Le deuxième axe : construction du sens et représentations s'intéressera, en
premier lieu, aux conflits interprétatifs qui se produisent lors du processus de
la construction discursive des représentations linguistiques, que ce soit dans
les interactions verbales, lors de l'acquisition/apprentissage d'une langue
seconde ou étrangère, ou bien dans
la construction identitaire lors de la communication interculturelle.
D'autre part cet axe s'ouvre à toute initiative ayant comme objet d'étude les
outils d'interprétation et d'analyse des textes et des discours dans une optique
constructiviste du sens. Thématiques suggérées :
- Représentations linguistiques et interaction verbale
- Représentations discursives et construction identitaire
- Acquisition/Apprentissage d'une L2/LE et enjeux de communication
- Sens et signification : modèles d'interprétation
- Cognition, stéréotypes linguistiques et prototypes
Le Colloque International des Jeunes Chercheurs s'adresse à tous les doctorants,
docteurs, étudiants de Master 2 et à tous les jeunes chercheurs concernés par
cette problématique.
Les communications feront l'objet d'une publication sélective.
Langues du colloque: Français, anglais.
Conférenciers Invités: Seront annoncés plus tard.
Mode d'Organisation:
Deux sessions sont prévues pour ce colloque : une session orale (20 minutes
d'exposé + 10 minutes de discussion) et une session poster.
Les propositions de communication orale se feront en police Times New Roman 12,
interligne simple, sous forme d'un résumé de 500 mots au maximum et les
propositions de poster sous forme d'un résumé de 250 mots au maximum (références
