Description:

PhD Studentship in Experimental Psycholinguistics: The Integration of Discourse
Information in Language Understanding

The studentship is available from 1st September 2009.

Applications are invited for a three-year Ph.D. studentship based at the
Department of Psychology at the University of Edinburgh under the supervision of
Dr Patrick Sturt and Dr Amit Dubey. The Ph.D. student will be expected to
design, run, and analyse experiments which will investigate how humans make use
of contextual information during sentence processing. The studentship is linked
to a project which also involves computational modeling.

The successful candidate will have an ESRC-recognised masters degree or
equivalent in psycholinguistics, experimental psychology, or a related
discipline. A good knowledge of experimental design is essential, and
familiarity with current sentence processing research is desirable. Experience
of reading time measurement or eye-movement recording would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will join a world-class community of researchers
working on language processing at the Department of Psychology and the School of
Informatics.

This is an ESRC-funded award, and applicants must meet the requirements for +3
ESRC studentships (see the Postgraduate Funding Guide at http://www.esrc.ac.uk
for details). For eligible candidates, the award will include tuition fees and
an annual stipend of currently GBP 13,290 per year for three years. Eligible
candidates include EU nationals who have been ordinarily resident in the UK for
the three years immediately preceding the award.
