Full Title: Athabascan/Dene Languages Conference Short Title: ALC/DLC Date: 25-Jun-2010 - 27-Jun-2010 Location: Eugene, Oregon, USA Contact Person: Gabriele Schwiertz Meeting Email: gabrielemueller gmail.com Web Site: http://www.uaf.edu/anlc/alc/index.html Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics; General Linguistics; Language Documentation Language Family(ies): Athapaskan Call Deadline: 01-Apr-2010 Meeting Description: The Athabascan/Dene Languages Conference brings together linguists, speakers, educators and policy makers from across the Athabascan region. Over the past two decades this conference has become the principal forum in which members of geographically distant, but culturally and intellectually related, Athabascan communities can compare notes and learn from each other. Call for Papers Abstracts are invited for 30-minute presentations in all areas of Athabascan/Dene linguistics, language documentation, language teaching, language policy, and language revitalization. Presentations addressing the themes/special sessions of the conference are particularly welcome. URL: http://www.uaf.edu/anlc/alc/2009/call.html Special Session 1 "What stories and conversations can teach us" The collection of narratives has always been an integral part of both linguistic and anthropological work, and it is one of the important issues worked on by many communities. The first special session has the goal of investigating narrative data from all perspectives in order to stimulate new research and discussion. The genre of conversation on the other hand has long been neglected, partially because of the difficulties associated with recording 'natural' conversation. However, the study of this linguistically rich genre will not only benefit linguistic inquiry, but is also highly relevant for language revitalization efforts, since language learners need to be able to listen to natural conversation in addition to other forms of language teaching. We thus invite all presentations on linguistic, anthropological, or pedagogical research related to narratives and conversation. Special Session 2 "Language Technology in Revitalization" For the second special session, we invite presentations of media used in community efforts in language revitalization, such as e.g. websites, books, DVD's or larger projects. The presentations can be full-length talks, but we also strongly encourage poster-style presentations, laptop-demonstrations, tutorials for technical workflows or simply bringing along books, posters and other materials to be displayed during a poster-style session. Submission Guidelines: For oral presentations, please email your anonymous abstracts as .doc or .pdf to olga lithophile.com AND gabrielemueller gmail.com. The body of the accompanying email should include the title of the paper and the names and contact information for all authors of the presentation. Abstracts must fit on one page in 12-point font with 1" margins. References and longer text examples may be included on a separate page if necessary. For contributions to the second special session in other formats, please send us a short description of what you would like to present and indicate the format of your contribution. Presentation & Publication: Presentations are allotted 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for discussion. Presentations in the second special session may have other formats (shorter presentations, tutorials, posters, demo's,...). Presented papers will be published as a volume of the Alaska Native Language Center Working Papers.
