The Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL, http://www.hum.leiden.edu/lucl/), the institute of linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities, Leiden University, is looking for A Post Doc in Italian Syntax and Dialectology for 5 years, starting on 1 September 2010 Candidates with a research specialty in Italian linguistics and/or dialectology are encouraged to apply. Tasks: - teaching and developing courses of Italian language and linguistics at the undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MA) levels in the department of Italian Language and Culture; - participation in ongoing research at LUCL; - research in Italian linguistics and/or dialectology; - managerial and organizational responsibilities within the department of Italian Language and Culture. Requirements: - a doctoral degree in Italian linguistics (completed by the start of the appointment); - native or near-native knowledge of Italian; - experience with teaching Italian language and linguistics at the undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MA) levels; - proven didactic qualities (teaching evaluations); - an active research profile, preferably in Italian syntax and/or Italian dialectology, with a developing record of publications; - a proven ability to contribute to a scholarly environment of international research excellence; - experience with writing grant proposals. Appointment: Successful applicants will be appointed for a period of one year with an extension of four years after positive evaluation of capabilities and compatibility. The gross monthly salary will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement of Dutch Universities for academic personnel, and will range, depending on qualifications and experience, between € 2.379,- and € 3.755,-, based upon a full-time appointment according to salary scale 10. In order to apply, the applicant must submit the following: - a cover letter (in English) indicating research interests; - a curriculum vitae (including list of publications); - teaching assessment documents (student course evaluations and a statement of teaching philosophy); - a list of three referees (that includes their email and postal addresses and telephone numbers); - two sample publications.
