Stevenson published a survey of the phonetics and grammatical structure of the Nuba Mountain languages. For decades afterwards, linguistic research in the Nuba Mountains was scarce. Recently however, scholars from inside and outside Sudan have again taken up the study of the languages of this fascinating area, and we think the time has come for a conference.
