Description:
The Department of Protein Evolution at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in Tübingen, Germany, is opening a two year postdoctoral position in the area of linguistic typology and language evolution. This position is part of a joint project of Andrei Lupas (MPI; Biology) and Gerhard Jäger (Tübingen Center for the Study of Language; Linguistics) on the application of statistical methods from bioinformatics to problems of language evolution. The successful candidate will be a researcher with demonstrated research experience in linguistic typology, especially regarding the work with data bases like the World Atlas of Language Structure or the World Color Survey. Furthermore, openness for work with advanced statistical methods like clustering techniques is expected. Excellent language skills (written and oral) in English are required. The salary is figured according to the union contract named TVöD, E 13. Applications should include CV, an outline of research experience, as well as names and addresses of up to three references.
