School of Humanities and Social Sciences Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Director for Centre for Modern Languages The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, is seeking to appoint a dynamic leader for a newly established Centre for Modern Languages. The successful candidate will concurrently hold a tenure-track or tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor in the Division of Linguistics and Multilingual Studies. The appointee will play a significant leadership role in faculty and curriculum development, as well as the expansion of the programme. Currently, the School offers nine modern language electives (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Spanish, and Thai). There are plans to augment the number of languages offered in the Centre. The appointee should have: * a PhD in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics, preferably with specialization in language acquisition and/or language learning; * knowledge and experience of second language pedagogy; * extensive teaching experience at university level; * an active research programme and a publication record commensurate with this level of appointment; * relevant administrative experience; and * experience in managing curriculum and material development and teaching innovation. Experience in setting up a language learning centre and the provision of support for out-of-class activities will be an advantage.
