Full Title: Ottawa's Conference for Linguistic Undergraduates Short Title: OCLU Date: 03-Dec-2010 - 04-Dec-2010 Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Contact Person: Cassandra Chapman Meeting Email: ottawa.undergradcon gmail.com Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics Call Deadline: 29-Oct-2010 Meeting Description: The University of Ottawa linguistics department is pleased to announce that it will be hosting its second annual Ottawa's Conference for Linguistics Undergraduates (OCLU) on December 3rd and 4th 2010! The goals of this conference are to promote undergraduate research and further the growth of the undergraduate linguistics community. This conference has a couple of purposes. The first, and most important, is to give undergraduate researchers the chance to present their original work. With competition for graduate school growing, it has become increasingly important for undergraduates to be able to speak in front of peer scholars, take constructive feedback and develop strong networking abilities. The aim of this conference is to do all three of these by allowing undergraduates, both nationally and internationally, the opportunity to meet and share their work with others. Secondly, this conference will provide the opportunity for potential graduate students to view our facilities and labs, meet our professors, speak with current undergraduate and graduate students, and experience the city of Ottawa. Call For Papers If you are an undergraduate student and are interested in participating, you are encouraged to submit an abstract for a 20-minute talk with a 5-minute question period on any topic relating to linguistics. Abstracts must be a maximum of one-page in length (excluding references) and must be submitted online as a Word document to ottawa.undergradcon gmail.com by Friday, October 29th, 2010. If you have any questions, kindly direct them to ottawa.undergradcon gmail.com
