Restructured MA and PhD in English as an International Language

The innovative postgraduate courses in the program of English as an
International Language at Monash University are designed for
candidates who are interested in exploring the theoretical and practical
aspects of the teaching of English as an international language and
sociolinguistics of the English language around the globe. The degree
pioneers a paradigm shift in the area of TESOL. The courses cover
issues that relate to the socio-cultural, conceptual, pedagogical and
ideological considerations that relate to the spread of English around the
world. They address issues such as the speaker's identity, teaching of
English as an international language, intercultural communication, World
Englishes, and the use of English as a Lingua Franca in international
