Job Summary: The Department of Linguistics, in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, is accepting applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, expected to start August 23, 2011. The department is interested in applications from linguists working on sign linguistics, within any area of formal linguistics. Although the specific domain of linguistics is open, candidates' research and teaching interests should fit well with those of the current departmental faculty. Minimum Qualifications: Requirements for a Ph.D. in Linguistics or related field completed by start date of employment; evidence or promise of a strong research/publication record; the ability to teach courses in linguistics at both the graduate and undergraduate levels; and a primary focus on generative approaches to sign linguistics. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable. Preferred Qualifications: The ability to work effectively in the context of diversity through unique skills and talents. For example, the candidate should contribute through research, teaching, and/or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and/or apply understanding of issues such as diversity and multiculturalism to scholarship. Appointment Terms: The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be within the Department of Linguistics at the main campus in Storrs, CT. The incumbent may have the opportunity to work at the University's campuses at Avery Point, Hartford, Stamford, Torrington, Waterbury, or West Hartford.
