The Department of Linguistics & TESOL announces a five-year package (assistantship and full tuition) to exceptional candidates who are applying to begin doctoral studies in Fall 2011. (9 hours of coursework per semester is a full-time load). Our Department has an established doctoral program, with strengths in language documentation, formal linguistics (syntax, semantics, pragmatics, phonology, phonetics), corpus linguistics, and second language acquisition, especially experimental approaches to SLA. Faculty strengths also include Asian, Austronesian, and Native American languages. We are hiring new faculty this year (an expansion hire) in language documentation. Facilities include a new Speech Sounds Lab with a soundproof booth and a portable ultrasound, and a Psycholinguistics Lab with an eye-tracker. The graduate students in our Department also organize an annual student conference that includes the Yumi Nakamura Prize in Linguistics, which awards a cash prize to the top presentations at the conference. Applicants should submit their materials by January 31, 2011, for fullest consideration for admission and for this funding.
