The graduate students of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at the University of Florida cordially invite submissions for their 6th Annual Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan Linguistics, Literatures, and Cultures on February 17-19, 2011. The colloquium will bring together graduate students and professors from a wide variety of disciplines.The colloquium is focused on linguistics and literature of the Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan languages, and Latin American Studies, but is open to other fields of humanities, including the following: Anthropology, Psychology, Art History, Business, History, International Relations, Journalism, Law, Music, Political Science, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Performing Arts, Telecommunications, Geography, Women’s Studies, and film. The colloquium will have the honor of featuring five distinguished keynote speakers: Pedro Guijarro-Fuentes, Ph.D Associate Professor (Reader) in Spanish University of Plymouth Plymouth, UK Marío Bellatin Mexican writer Xavier Villaurrutia Poetry Award (2000) Mazatlán Literature Poetry Award (2008) George Esenwein, Ph.D Associate Professor Department of History University of Florida Pepa Úbeda Catalan Poet Miquel de Palol Award (2010) Benet Rivas Award (2009) Alfredo Suppia, Ph.D (tentative) Professor of Film Institute of Art and Design Federal University of Juiz de Foras Minas Geráis, Brazil
Call For Papers Please send your one-page, single-spaced abstract of approximately 250 words with title attached as an MS-Word document to coloquiouf gmail.com by January 3, 2011. Abstracts and papers can be submitted in English, Spanish, Portuguese or Catalan. Specify in the subject line whether your abstract is intended for Linguistics, Literature, or Humanities in general, and whether it is written in English, Spanish, Portuguese or Catalan. For example: Submission Linguistics Catalan. Please be sure to include your name, institutional affiliation and email address. The selection committee will respond to proposals as soon as possible. All presentations will have a 20-minute limit. A $30 donation would be greatly appreciated to help offset the costs of the colloquium.
