The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies Assistant Professor in Chinese Linguistics The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the largest government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong in terms of student number. It offers programmes at Doctorate, Master's, Bachelor's degrees and Higher Diploma levels. It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,400. The total consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$4 billion per year. The Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies is strong in Applied Language Studies. It offers bachelor, master, and doctoral programmes in Translating & Interpreting, Bilingual Corporate Communication, Chinese Linguistics, Chinese Language Teaching, and Teaching Chinese as a second language. The appointee will be required to (a) engage in teaching and related learning activities in Chinese Linguistics and general Linguistics; (b) undertake scholarly research in his/her area(s) of expertise; (c) take up an active role in curriculum design and development; and (d) provide administrative support for academic and departmental affairs. Applicants should have (a) a PhD degree in a relevant discipline, such as Chinese Linguistics, or general Linguistics, preferably with expertise(s) in, but not limited to, the following areas: Syntax, Corpus Linguistics, Language Technology; (b) effective classroom teaching skills in English, preferably with some other supplementary languages; (c) track record of research; (d) a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and professional service; and (e) working experience in Greater China or the West. Preference will be given to those with relevant teaching experience at tertiary level and proficiency in Putonghua and/or Cantonese. Remuneration and Conditions of Service: Salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Remuneration package will be highly competitive. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
