Primary duties include teaching five courses per year including elementary (2 courses) and intermediate (2 courses) in Dutch using an integrated skills approach. The fifth course will focus on literary, social, political, cultural and/or sociolinguistic topics related to the target language (as determined on the basis of the appointee's qualifications and expertise). The Lector will develop the broad curriculum and the pedagogic materials for the Dutch language and culture. He/She will advise students and participate in building a program of Dutch Studies within the German Department and the European Studies Council at Yale University, especially by developing overseas language and other study opportunities. Applicants must have: 1) native or near-native fluency in Dutch; 2) strong English communication skills; 3) experience in teaching Dutch in a college or university environment; 4) an M.A. or other advanced degree (e.g. applied linguistics, teaching Dutch as a Second Language, or other relevant fields); and 5) demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for language instruction. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of overseas language and related study opportunities and resources, experience with technology-enhanced language learning, and demonstrated commitment to the broader field of Dutch Studies and/or other relevant disciplines and regions.
