Description:
PhD Studentship in Cognitive Linguistics The Department of Humanities at Northumbria University invites applications for a four-year fully funded PhD studentship supported jointly by the University and Mouton de Gruyter, the publisher of the journal Cognitive Linguistics. We are seeking an exceptional post-graduate scholar who will be able to combine original doctoral level research and work placement on the journal. The successful candidate will receive a full fee waiver (home and EU students only) and an annual stipend of £15,047. He/She will also have the opportunity to participate in the Department's teaching preparation programme and obtain teaching experience. The PhD project will involve an empirical investigation of some aspect of speakers' lexical or grammatical knowledge from a cognitive perspective using either corpus or experimental methods, or a combination of both. The specific topic will be negotiated with the supervisor; interested applicants should consult with Dr Dąbrowska (ewa.dabrowska northumbria.ac.uk) before submitting their application. The closing date for applications is 18 March 2010. The studentship will commence in September 2010. For further particulars and an application form, please contact Gill Drinkald (gill.drinkald northumbria.ac.uk, tel. 0044 191 227 3880). The Department of Humanities also offers a number of partially funded PhD studentships in Linguistics, Creative Writing and English Literature.
