Birmingham Cityscapes Date: 18-Jun-2011 - 18-Jun-2011 Location: Birmingham, United Kingdom Contact: Robert Lawson Contact Email: cityscapes bcu.ac.uk Meeting URL: http://www.bcu.ac.uk/pme/school-of- english/research/birmingham-cityscapes Linguistic Field(s): Sociolinguistics Meeting Description: Engaging with current issues facing urban research in Birmingham, the Birmingham Cityscapes conference will provide a forum for academics, scholars, practitioners, community leaders and local residents to discuss urban research in the city, with a special focus on inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary approaches. The conference will explore urban research from a number of angles, while also addressing the perceived disconnect between those driving change in the city and those researching the experience of the individual in an urban environment. The conference also aims to facilitate the development of new research networks and will provide an opportunity for theoretical and applied knowledge transfer across the public, private, voluntary, and academic sectors. As the intersection of language, culture, and location play an integral role in urban development, sociolinguists and experts in related fields are encouraged to attend. Conference registration is now open. Early Bird registration closes on 18th April 2011. Please visit www.bcu.ac.uk/cityscapes for more information. Conference programme is available at: http://www.bcu.ac.uk/pme/school-of-english/research/birmingham- cityscapes/programme ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This Year the LINGUIST List hopes to raise $67,000. Our Federal Tax number is 38- 6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor. Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a program. Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
