Meeting Description:
The Swiss Center for Affective Sciences is happy to announce the third International Summer School in Affective Sciences (ISSAS 2011), to take place from August 22 to 31 at the Château de Bossey, near Geneva (Switzerland). The school will be devoted to the topic 'Emotion Expression and Communication'. The emphasis will be placed on verbal and non-verbal approaches from an interdisciplinary perspective. The expression of emotions through face, voice, and body is a central component of the emotion process: together with the perception of social signals and the resulting inferences, expression forms the basis of emotional communication in both animal and human interactions. This summer school proposes a comprehensive survey of fundamental theories of expression and impression - both verbal and non-verbal -, major research paradigms and results, and cutting-edge methodologies from the vantage point of different disciplines, including psychology, neuroscience, ethology, philosophy, musicology, literature, linguistics, rhetoric and the arts. In addition to covering general theoretical tools, hands-on workshops in small groups will be conducted on research methodologies, multimodal emotion communication, computational modeling of emotional expression, and the expressive resources of music, language (rhetoric, literature) and the arts. The summer school is designed for 40 participants, selected to represent a wide variety of scientific backgrounds (disciplines, laboratories, and levels of advancement in their scientific careers). Application deadline: April 30 , 2011 Notification of acceptance: May 31 , 2011 Registration deadline: August 10 , 2011 More information (including the program, fees, and application procedure) can be found on the ISSAS website at: http://www.affective-sciences.org/issas Swiss Center for Affective Sciences (http://www.affective-sciences.org/)

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return
(U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact
your financial advisor.
Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match
any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple
administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company
operates such a program.
Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
