Meeting Description:

The 8th International Congress of the Spanish Society of Linguistic Historiography is a scientific meeting of national and international researchers that is held every two years. It is a consolidated congress as evidenced by the seven previous workshops held in Spain and Portugal since 1997. The VIII International Congress of the Spanish Society of Linguistic Historiography will be held at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Madrid, Spain) in December 2011. Approximately 150 participants are expected and the presence of reputed national and international scholars to participate as speakers are already confirmed.

Call for Papers:

Main areas of research are the following:

- History of Language Sciences
- Data collection and editing
- Work of Schools: grammar, spelling, dictionaries, literary issues, etc.
- Specific studies on lexicography, with particular attention to Sebastian de Covarrubias' Tesoro de la lengua castellana o española (1611)
- History of linguistic and grammatical ideas from Antiquity to the present day
- Ideas about the origin, evolution and diversity of languages
- Treatment of world languages

Those interested in presenting should send communications to the Congress, before July 31, 2011, including a summary of their work (between 50 and 200 words, font Times New Roman, 12 pts.) and one of the three official languages for the Congress (Spanish, Portuguese or English) through the form on our website.
