Experience making software, dynamic websites, iPhone apps. Description: Hold an important role in the linguistics department at a prestigious social- media company in New York City over the summer. A mix-up of the following duties will be assigned on a team or individual basis, based on your skill set: i. research/logging/data-entry/clerical work on: a) spoken~written~signed languages (Major Asian, Major European, indigenous American, Dead, Constructed) b) cultures that speak those languages c) linguistics of those languages d) companies/universities/organizations/persons relevant to those languages e) language technologies/software f) markets, demographics... ii. implementation: a) programming, website making, b) glossing, transcribing, c) technical writing, d) creative writing, e) graphic design, f) acting, g) fieldwork (attending cultural events, filming/editing, recording/editing sound files)... iii. Brainstorming/problem-solving/innovating on all these fronts. This internship is unpaid but could lead to payment if we can find creative ways of using our work to generate our own revenue. We prefer interns to work on location, telecommuting is a possibility for exceptional candidates only (including candidates with American Indian or Polynesian language skills).
