Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS) is seeking excellent candidates for a part-time high school Mandarin teacher position with Sacred Heart Preparatory starting the 2011-2012 academic year. Organization Overview: Founded in 1898, SHS is a Roman Catholic, coeducational, independent school and is comprised of the Lower/Middle School for preschool through grade eight, and Sacred Heart Preparatory for grades nine through twelve. Summary of Position: This is a part-time position in the high school World Languages department. The Mandarin language program is a four-year conversational (non-AP track) program for non-native speakers who want to prepare for college-level study. Required qualifications include two to five years of experience teaching at the high school level or above, a post-secondary degree in Mandarin, Education or a related field, and experience teaching Mandarin to non-native speakers. Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in Mandarin, Education or a related field, and a teaching credential. Required Knowledge and Skills for All Teaching Positions at SHS: - Strong teaching ability; enjoy working with children and adolescents - Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English - Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills - Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the SHS community - Obvious passion for the academic subject matter being taught -  Commitment to equity and inclusion - Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs Employment: The advertised position offers competitive compensation.
