GLiP meetings began as an attempt to bring together (i) Polish generative linguists, (ii) generative linguists working in Poland, as well as (iii) generative linguists working on Polish. However, the scope of GLiP has never been limited just to papers or authors belonging to the three categories. This year’s GLiP meeting is a continuation of this idea. This year’s GLiP conference will be preceded by a PhD and Graduate Student Workshop on Friday, December 2, 2011. The rooms will be available for booking at this rate until October 31, 2011. 2nd Call for Papers: We invite papers from any area of theoretical (generative) linguistics, including typology and diachrony, as well as experimental linguistics (psycholinguistics or neurolinguistics). Special (Thematic) Session on Tense, Aspect and Modality: We broaden the scope of GLiP to also include papers on any aspect of tense, aspect and modality, especially in exotic or less studied languages. This thematic session is organized as part of the project 'Understanding Linguistic Categories: Temporality at the Interfaces' sponsored by the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP). For details see http://www.ifa.uni.wroc.pl/trait We are interested in particular in papers on the interaction between modality and aspect in the expression of actuality entailments or in the expression of future reference. Is it correct that tense, aspect and modality can interact compositionally with each other to give the same range of meanings cross-linguistically? More specifically, are the meanings expressed in such a way really the same across different languages? Or should we rather expect to find semantic variation (e.g., in the sense that apparently equivalent modal operators across languages might turn out to have different (even very subtle) semantic and pragmatic properties)? This year's GLiP conference will be preceded by a PhD and Graduate Student Workshop on Friday, December 2, 2011. The format of the conference is 20 min for presentation + 10 min question time. The language of the conference is English. Papers presented at the conference will be published in 'Generative Linguistics in Wroclaw,' an online series published by the Center for General and Comparative Linguistics at the University of Wroclaw.
