Call for Papers: Papers with the following topics are invited: (1) The contributions of Professor Robert Cheng for the promotion of Taiwanese language (2) The origin and development of Peh-oe-ji (POJ) (3) Study of literary works and publications in POJ (4) Teaching and testing of POJ (5) A comparative study of POJ and Romanization in other countries (6) Linguistic and sociolinguistic aspects of POJ (7) POJ and contemporary Taiwanese language movement (8) Any other issues related to POJ, Romanization, or the Taiwanese language(s) Important Dates: Deadline for abstracts: August 5, 2011 Notification of acceptance: by August 15, 2011 Deadline for full papers: September 15, 2011 Submission Guidelines: (1) Abstracts for paper and poster presentations are all welcome. Paper presentations are expected to give an oral presentation in 20 minutes with an extra 10 minutes for discussions. Poster presentation will be given a space (80cm x 120cm) during the conference day. They are all considered official presentations. The prospective presenters should choose either mode of presentation depending on the most effective and informative way of communicating the scientific content of their research. (2) The abstract must be limited to one page, with font size 12p, margins 1 inch (top and bottom) and 1.25 inch (left and right), line spacing 1.5. (3) Please add an information page prior to the abstract page. The information should include a) title of the paper and mode of presentation, b) author(s), c) affiliation, d) position, e) mailing address, f) phone number, g) e-mail. (4) The abstract must be saved as Word and PDF formats, and email to the following address. Please add author's name with the phrase 'abstract for 2011 conference on Taiwanese Romanization' to the title of email. (5) Submitted papers will be peer reviewed. The conference organizers will send out the result of review by the deadline of notification. For the accepted presenters, please write your paper with the conference designated format (will be posted later) and submit your full paper by the deadline mentioned above. (6) The official languages of the conference include the Taiwanese languages and English. Only traditional POJ and MOE's Tai-lo Pheng-im are accepted for Taiwanese Romanization. DoulosSIL Unicode font is recommended for IPA transcription. Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese may be used as long as no body is opposed to them. (7) No registration fee is required for all presenters. Limited honorarium will be provided to the paper presenters whose papers are submitted by deadline and written in the designated format.
