Meeting Description:
A giant in the field of linguistics at large, and at The Ohio State University, was lost late last year as Ilse Lehiste passed away on Christmas Day, 2010, at the age of 88, succumbing to pneumonia. In memory of our colleague and to commemorate and celebrate her long and productive career, the Department of Linguistics is hosting the Ilse Lehiste Memorial Symposium on November 11-12, 2011. There will be three invited speakers, representing three of the many themes in Ilse’s research: Jaan Ross, Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Janet Fletcher, University of Melbourne Linda Shockey, University of Reading plus sessions of submitted papers on relevant topics.
Call for Papers: There is room on the program for more papers so we invite submission of abstracts for presentations of 20 minutes (with 10 additional minutes for questions and discussion) on topics relating to: - Juncture and grouping - Prosody of 'paragraphs' and larger discourse topic structure - Rhythmic typology - Poetry as the crystallization of a language's rhythm - Prosody and music - Prosody of Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian - Prosody of Finno-Ugric - Language contact and language rhythm Please send one-page 500-word (maximum) abstracts (with references and key data placed on a second page if needed) abstracts electronically as a pdf file to ilsele ling.osu.edu. Alternatively, you may send it via post to Lehiste Memorial Symposium, Department of Linguistics, 222 Oxley Hall, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio USA 43210-1298. The deadline for receipt of your abstract is October 1, 2011. Please include your name, affiliation, and contact information along with the abstract.
