Meeting Description:
The international scientific conference ‘Meaning in Translation: Illusion of Precision’ is organised by the Institute of Applied Linguistics of Riga Technical University. The themes invited for the conference include scientific and technical discourse, political discourse, theory and practice of translation, terminology, semantics and pragmatics. We invite theoretical and practical studies as well as relevant work-in-progress papers in one of the specified themes. We welcome participation from, researchers of different cultural and language backgrounds from various scientific disciplines. Confirmed Invited Speakers: Prof. M. Teresa Cabré Castellví (Pompeu Fabra University) Prof. Rita Temmerman (Erasmushogeschool Brussel) Prof. Gerhard Budin (University of Vienna) Prof. Reine Meylaerts (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) Prof. Andrejs Veisbergs (University of Latvia) Prof. Jānis Sīlis (Ventspils University College)
Call for Papers: We invite proposals, in English, French or German, for papers that are related, but not limited, to the following themes: - Scientific and Technical Discourse - Political Discourse - Theory and Practice of Translation - Terminology - Text/Corpus Linguistics - Semantics and Pragmatics We invite abstracts for 20-minute presentations with 10 minutes for questions. Abstracts should be no more than 300 words in length, excluding title and references. Abstracts will be peer-reviewed and replies will be sent by mid-June. Please submit abstracts by e-mail to marina.platonova rtu.lv as an attachment (preferably in MSWord or pdf). In the subject field of the e-mail, enter 'MTIP 2012 Abstract'. In the body of the e-mail, include the following information: 1. Title of the paper 2. Name(s) of presenter(s) 3. Department and affiliation 4. Position 5. Email address 6. Postal address and phone number 7.
