Description:
The Linguistics Department at the University of Florida seeks to fill a faculty position at the tenure-track level for an Assistant Professor of Second Language Acquisition. The successful candidate will be expected to 1) teach courses at the both undergraduate and graduate level related to area of research expertise within SLA 2) contribute to teaching TESL courses for the department's growing undergraduate TESL minor and certificate program (http://www.lin.ufl.edu/tesl/TESLminor.html), and graduate SLAT certificate program (http://www.lin.ufl.edu/slat.html) 2) participate actively in the academic life of the department, college, and university and 3) maintain an active research agenda. Research areas of particular interest include: applied linguistic approaches to second language acquisition, formal linguistic approaches to second language acquisition and psycholinguistic / neurolinguistic approaches to second language processing. Position begins August 2012. Required: Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition or related field by time of employment; a demonstrated record of accomplishments in scholarship, including evidence for a future outstanding publication record and the potential to create an internationally recognized research program; and demonstration of effectiveness in teaching. ESL/EFL teaching and assessment experience, publications, and evidence of ability to attract external research funding preferred. The Department of Linguistics at the University of Florida houses three research labs related to language acquisition and/or linguistic processing, equipped for basic offline experiments, reaction time experiments, eye- tracking, ERPs as well as experimental phonetic/ phonology research: (a) Brain and Language Laboratory (http://www.clas.ufl.edu/users/kaan/kaanlab/index.html ) (b) Language and Cognition Lab (www.clas.ufl.edu/users/cowles/LangCogLab/Welcome.html) (c) Linguistic Development Lab (http://plaza.ufl.edu/jrothman/LDL/index.html) All applications must be submitted electronically at the application URL below (search for requisition # 00008619).
