Description:
The Lingua Team is looking for a computational linguist to: - Describe properties and write rules relevant to grammar checking for one or more of languages*, and - Document a new linguistic rule writing development environment - Properties to be addressed include agreement, phrase wellformedness, case government, subcategorization, word order, etc. Qualifications: - Degreed linguist with graduate-level studies and proven experience managing or performing computational linguistic work (syntax, morphology, lexicography) in several languages - Experience writing rules in a formal system, ideally for style or grammar checking applications - Experience in full or chunk parsing, a plus - Self-starter, ability to work independently, excellent written communication skills Contract full-time for three months, to be extended for up to a year depending on ability to meet the job demands. After the first month, possibility for working part of the time at home, depending on demonstrated ability to get the work done away from the office. Must be available in Redmond, WA at least one day a week. And must have a valid work permit for the USA (resident/green card or US citizenship) *Languages: Ability to work in multiple languages is required. Knowledge or experience working in one of these groups of languages is a plus: - Germanic: Danish, Norwegian Bokmål, Swedish, Dutch - Romance: Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese - Agglutinative: Finnish, Hungarian, Turkish - Slavic: Czech, Polish, Russian, Bulgarian - Semitic: Arabic, Hebrew
