Description:
The Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a tenure-line position in Hispanic linguistics (area focus open) at the Assistant Professor rank (beginning or advanced). The starting date of the appointment is flexible. The ideal candidate should conduct community/corpus- or laboratory-based experimental research that will add to the Department's significant presence in and contribution to Penn State's Center for Language Science (http://lsrg.psu.edu/ ), a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative group of researchers who share common interests in language acquisition, processing, variation and change, language contact, and an array of issues pertaining to bi- and multi-lingualism. Candidates should possess native or near native fluency in Spanish, as well as a Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics or a related field. The Ph.D. must be in hand at time of application. Candidates should show clear evidence of scholarly potential and teaching excellence; a strong record of original research, either in the laboratory or in the field, is highly desirable. Desirable research areas include but are not limited to:, laboratory phonology, phonetics, sociophonetics pragmatics, and discourse analysis. Knowledge of Italian and/or Portuguese a plus.The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Spanish linguistics and will have the opportunity to be affiliated with Penn State's Program in Linguistics and in the Center for Language Science.
