Meeting Description:
LSA 2012 Pre-Conference Satellite Workshop An LDC-hosted workshop entitled 'Satellite Workshop for Sociolinguistic Archival Preparation' will precede the Winter Meeting of the LSA. This workshop will address the difficulties associated with adapting (socio)linguistic methods for the creation and storing of corpora, to permit them to be archived for further study or for historical comparison, so future 'panel' or 'trend' corpora can be developed from them. The Satellite Workshop -- https://lsadc.org/info/meet-annual12-sociolinguistic.cfm -- will begin at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 4 and continue through 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 5. The LSA conference fee covers registration for the Satellite Workshop. Workshop registrants should go to the following link: http://www.lsadc.org/meetings/registration1.cfm?type=ssm If only attending the workshop, go to the 'Choose Sister Society' dropdown menu and select 'Satellite Workshop for Sociolinguistic Archival Preparation'. Workshop organizers are grateful for the support from the US National Science Foundation (BCS#1144480) which will permit this workshop to take place and will also fund a certain number of grants to permit students to arrive early for the workshop. Students interested in financial assistance for attending the pre-conference workshop should go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GWHT3XW. Preference will be given to students who are planning to carry out fieldwork, or who have already begun to do so. We hope to see you in Portland!
