Position: Modern Languages, Lecturer of Arabic Vacancy Number: 558925 Department: Modern Language Status: Full-Time, Regular Location: Flagstaff Special Information: This full-time, benefit eligible, non-tenure eligible position is renewable on a year-to-year basis contingent upon performance, departmental needs and university funding. This position will begin on August 20, 2012. Job Description: - Teach lower-division Arabic language courses, with the possibility of some upper division courses - Advise language students on completing language requirements, minors, and study abroad - Promote and participate in the academic and cultural activities of the department, college and university Minimum Qualifications: - Master's degree in Arabic pedagogy, literature, linguistics or related field (e.g., TESOL, Applied Linguistics) - Experience teaching Arabic language courses at the post-secondary level - Advanced proficiency in both Arabic and English (written and spoken) Preferred Qualifications: - Demonstrated use of teaching methods and strategies fostering oral and written proficiency - Experience advising language students - Experience in and commitment to working with diverse faculty, students, and staff - Proficiency and knowledge of a third foreign language adequate to teach lower-division courses at the post-secondary level General Information: Northern Arizona University is a 25,000-student institution with its main campus in Flagstaff, a four-season community of about 65,000 at the base of the majestic San Francisco Peaks. NAU's emphasis on undergraduate education is enhanced by its graduate programs and research as well as distance learning. The university is committed to a diverse and civil working and learning environment. Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.
