Past, Present, Future: Exploring Hispanic Literature and Linguistics in the United States

The graduate students of Spanish at Arizona State University (ASU) are honored to invite you to our XIV Spanish Graduate Conference. The conference themes will seek to analyze the role of Hispanic culture and the Spanish language in the United States from cultural, literary and linguistic perspectives. The impact of all things Hispanic on our country in the context of current events will also be discussed considering the growing number of Spanish speakers, readers, and its new audiences, as well as its importance in the development of a population who uses Spanish daily for communication.

The conference registration fee is $35 prior to the event and $45 on the day of the conference. Conference attendees who are not presenting do not need to pay. Call for Papers:

Presentations may be in Spanish or in English. The maximum presentation time will be 20 minutes.

Deadline for Abstract Submissions: February 15, 2011

The possible themes of the conference include, but are not limited to:

Bilingualism
Acquisition of second and third languages
Applied Linguistics
Sociolinguistics
Code switching
Language contact
Pragmatics
Dialectology

Participants should send their abstracts to 14conferenceasugmail.com. Title the subject heading of your email, 'Literature Abstract' or 'Linguistics Abstract'. Each abstract should have a maximum of 250 words in English or in Spanish. Together with the abstract, please include the following information: title of the presentation, name of author, email address and postal address, telephone, and a brief curriculum vitae. The deadline to confirm attendance is February 4, 2011 via email (or via postal mail if necessary).
