Meeting Description:
5th Austronesian and Papuan Languages and Linguistics conference, 2012 A new organisation, the Austronesian and Papuan Languages and Linguistics research group (APLL - see http://www.soas.ac.uk/linguistics/research/apll/austronesian-and-papuan-languages-and-linguistics-apll.html), has been established with sponsorship from SOAS, Oxford University and University of Surrey. It is a successor to the UK Austronesian Research Group that was established in 2005 but has been dormant for some years - APLL has a wider focus, including Papuan languages. The Austronesian and Papuan Languages and Linguistics research group (APLL) is pleased to announce its fifth international conference APLL5 to be held at SOAS, University of London, on 4-5 May 2012. APLL5 follows the successful ALL conferences held at SOAS and St Catherine's College Oxford in previous years, most recently ALL4 in 2008; the numbering of the APLL conferences follows on from the sequence established by the ALL conferences. The keynote speaker for the conference will be Marian Klamer of Leiden University. Registration: Standard rate £30; Student rate £15; Conference dinner £15 Pre-registration required. To register online please visit the SOAS Online Store.
Call for Papers: The purpose of the APLL conferences is to provide a venue for presentation of the best current research on Austronesian and Papuan languages and linguistics and to promote collaboration and research in this area. All papers will be subject to assessment by the Program Committee. Abstracts: Abstracts are invited for the APLL conference. Presentations will be 30 minutes followed by 10 minutes of discussion. Each individual may present up to one single authored paper and one joint paper. Abstracts should be no more than one page in length, including references and examples. They should be anonymous, and set in a minimum of 12pt font. They should be in .doc or .pdf format (but not .docx format) and the filename should start with APLL5, followed by an underscore and then first authors' surname, e.g. LDLT3_ashmore.pdf. If you have a common surname, please also include initials, e.g. LDLT3_jjones.pdf. Abstracts should be submitted using the APLL5 EasyAbs site, which is now open: http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/APLL5 The deadline for the submission of all abstracts is Friday 20 January 2012. Applicants will be notified of abstract acceptance by Friday 2 March 2012.
