Within it, the department of Linguistics and English Language is seeking to fill three permanent Lectureships (=Assistant Professorships) in English Linguistics. The lectureships are open-ended positions, subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period. Candidates with a research specialism in any area of English Linguistics are encouraged to apply. A specialism in historical linguistics, child language acquisition, psycholinguistics, or corpus-based and quantitative methods of data analysis may be an advantage. The successful candidates will have a doctorate, completed or near to completion, in the area of English Language/Linguistics or Linguistics, together with a developing record of high-quality publications and a proven ability to contribute to a scholarly environment of international research excellence. The post-holders will be expected to contribute to research activities within their area of expertise, generate scholarly publications, submit research grant applications and participate in research supervision at PGT and PGR level. The appointed candidates will have a strong commitment to high-quality, research-led teaching and will have some experience of teaching. The post-holders will be expected to contribute to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and an ability to teach course units in areas of Linguistics beyond their research specialisms is desirable. The successful candidates must be able to collaborate closely with colleagues in the delivery of teaching and learning, be willing to take a share of responsibilities for student progress and academic management, and be eager to make a full commitment to our ideals of collegiality and academic integrity at all levels of activity.
