We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate. In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have taken the trouble to respond to the query. To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at http://linguistlist.org/LL/posttolinguist.cfm.

I am looking for volunteers to participate in an online questionnaire about how English speakers use verbs of manner of speaking (e.g. 'screech' and 'holler'). Participants can be both native and non-native English speakers. The results of this questionnaire will be used as part of a sociolinguist pilot study. The questionnaire consists of twelve fill-in-the-blank questions in which participants have to decide which of two words best completes a sentence. After that exercise, participants will be asked to rank how often these words are used with males versus females. The questionnaire will take between five and ten minutes to complete, and will be available to participants until December 14, 2012. If you would like to participate, please select one of the links below based on your birth month. For those born in January, April, July, or October, click here to complete Questionnaire 1: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDZFdWtTUjNwX18wVU5QcFd6cjBWTFE6MQ For those born in February, May, August, or November, click here to complete Questionnaire 2: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGVJNG1Bak1lR3oyOGlWaHdZMmw4N1E6MQ And for those born in March, June, September, or December, click here to complete Questionnaire 3: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDc3aDVyVGktNzBPa1RNajlPVmdfTnc6MQ If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments regarding this survey, feel free to contact me directly at brent.allen.miller [at] gmail [dot] com.
