Description:
St. Cloud State University seeks a director of the Intensive English Center (IEC). Appointment will begin in Fall 2012 with the possibility of Summer 2012 employment. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be a teacher educator and director of the IEC. The assignment will be equally divided between: (1) teaching 12 credits per year in the MA-TESL Program including 8 credits for supervising graduate assistants teaching in the IEC and (2) leading a medium-sized intensive English program. For the IEC, the director is the primary decision maker for the budget, for assessment and testing, for the curriculum, and for the scheduling and management of courses. The director also works with a program coordinator, support staff, and adjunct and fix-term faculty. In addition, responsibilities will include academic advising, service on thesis committees, and participation in department committees. The collective bargaining agreement requires that SCSU faculty demonstrate effective teaching; engage in scholarship and research; show evidence of continued preparation and study; contribute to student growth through advising and other means; and provide service to the university, especially through committee assignments, and service to the community. Qualifications and Experience: Doctorate in applied linguistics, TESL, or closely related field; at least three years of full-time ESL teaching experience; experience in administering intensive English programs, experience in teaching linguistics, second language acquisition, language teaching methods, qualitative and quantitative research methods in TESL/applied linguistics. Primary academic area of research in TESL/applied linguistics is open. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Preferred: Publications and other professional activities, teaching experience in an MA TESL/Applied Linguistics program. Personal communication skills, knowledge of budgeting, experience supervising and mentoring graduate students, instructors, and office staff in an intensive English program.
