Meeting Description:
The presidential theme for the 2012 convention in Seattle will be Language, Literature, Learning. Learning Literature through Language and Language through Literature Practical and theoretical explorations of literary linguistics in the teaching of languages and literatures: What is the role of stylistics in teaching literature? What potentials exist for the use of literary texts in language programs from the vantage of linguistic approaches to literature? In our pedagogies, how do we continue to respond to Jakobson=92s 1960 charge that linguists deaf to the poetic function of language and literary scholars unfamiliar with linguistic methods are anachronistic?
