3rd International Seminar on Metaphor and Discourse: Verb-particle Constructions and their Underlying Semantic Systems

The seminar series on Metaphor and Discourse, held at Universitat Jaume I in 2003 and 2006, sees its continuation in its third edition, which focuses on literal and figurative uses of verb-particle constructions (VPCs, multi-word verbs, phrasal verbs, prepositional verbs, phrasal-prepositional verbs) in the English language.

Francisco José Ruiz de Mendoza Ibáñez (University of La Rioja, Spain)
Beate Hampe (Erfurt University, Germany)





Call for Papers:

We cordially invite researchers to submit paper proposals on theoretical and applied studies on VPCs. The following thematic lines are especially welcome:

-Figurative uses of VPCs
-VPCs: semantics and compositionality
-VPCs and construction grammars
-VPCs and the lexicalization continuum
-Idiomaticity and phraseology
-VPCs and corpus studies: syntactic and semantic patterns

Abstract Submission:

We invite abstracts, in English, for 20-minute presentations, plus 10-minute discussion. Abstracts submitted for consideration should clearly state the problem, objectives, methodology, and possible results/findings where applicable.Abstract length must range between 800 and 1000 words, including title, 5 keywords and a maximum of 8 references. Abstracts should be sent via email as an attachment (in .doc format) to vpcuji.es by March 31st 2011.

The attached file must only include the title of the contribution in boldface and the abstract itself (including keywords and references). Please do not include the author's details in the attachment.
