Dear LINGUIST List Subscribers,

You may have noticed that syntax has been in the lead of the Battle
of the Fields for a while now. Roger Shuy wants to abolish the status
quo and see sociolinguistics push to the top. He sends forth a
challenge to all sociolinguists:

Roger Shuy will donate $500 himself if other sociolinguists donate
$1000 in the next 48 hours!

Sociolinguistics is currently in second place in the subfield
challenge. With $1000 from other sociolinguists and $500 from Roger
Shuy, sociolinguistics would be poised to overtake the incumbent
syntax. Show your stripes, sociolinguists! Band together and
overthrow your rivals!

Donate by noon (EST) on Wednesday, March 14, to have your donation
count towards the challenge-- and make sure to select your subfield
on the donation page! You've got 48 (technically, 49) hours to
accumulate as many donations from sociolinguists as possible: GO!

Good luck, sociolinguists,
The LINGUIST List Crew
