Con profunda tristeza, comunicamos que el día 20 de marzo de 2012
falleció Adriana Álvarez rodeada de sus seres queridos en General
Roca, Argentina.

Aquellos que como yo tuvieron la alegría de conocer a Adriana la
recordarán siempre como una mujer de enorme humildad, una
profesora querida y respetada y una gran persona y amiga.

Adriana fue parte fundamental en el desarrollo de la Gramática
Generativa en la Argentina, no solo por sus investigaciones en
adquisición del lenguaje sino también por haber alentado con su
incondicional apoyo y su generosidad infinita a las nuevas
generaciones de lingüistas. También cumplió un papel fundamental
desde su puesto de directora de la Maestría en Lingüística de la
Universidad Nacional del Comahue.

Se la va a extrañar enormemente.

English Translation:

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Adriana
Álvarez, who died on March 20, 2012 in General Roca, Argentina,
surrounded by her loved ones.

Those among us who had the pleasure of knowing Adriana will forever
remember her as a woman of tremendous humility, a beloved professor
and a great person and friend.

Adriana contributed greatly to the development of Generative Grammar
in Argentina, not only with her research in Language Acquisition, but
also by encouraging new generations of linguists with her unconditional
support and endless generosity. She also played a fundamental role in
her position as director of the Masters in Linguistics of the Universidad
Nacional del Comahue.

She will be greatly missed.
