Meeting Description:
The conference theme addresses current applied linguistic approaches to content and language integrated learning. For the purposes of this conference CLIL will be defined as any educational approach in which the learning of content is combined with the learning of a language not used in the students' immediate communities. Confirmed keynote speakers: Jasone Cenoz, Universidad del PaĆs Vasco (Spain), Caroline Coffin, The Open University (UK), Christiane Dalton-Puffer, University of Vienna (Austria), Roy Lyster, McGill University (Canada)
Call for Papers: We welcome proposals reporting research on any educational level (primary, secondary and tertiary) and from any part of the world. We invite the submission of abstracts (for paper or poster presentations) addressing issues on any area of Applied Linguistics in relation to CLIL. However, proposals addressing topics within the following four broad thematic strands are especially welcome: 1. Sociolinguistic perspectives on CLIL (multilingual education and language policy, English as a lingua franca, learner and teacher identities, etc.) 2. SLA perspectives on CLIL (focus on form/forms, grammatical/phonological/lexical/pragmatic development, receptive and productive skills, individual factors, etc. 3. Subject literacies in CLIL (genres, registers, academic language functions) 4. CLIL classroom discourse (interaction, pragmatics, multimodality, etc.) Talks will be allocated 20 minutes, plus 10 minutes for questions. Posters will be put up on the first day of the conference and remain up for the duration of the conference. The language of the conference is English. Abstracts of no more than 300 words (including references) should be submitted via email to alpclil uam-clil.com. Please indicate whether you would like to present a poster or a paper, and include the following information in the main body of your email: author's name, affiliation, email address for correspondence, title of talk and preferred thematic strand. All abstracts will be subject to double-blind peer review by an international Scientific Committee. The deadline for abstract submission is 31 October 2012. Notification of acceptance will be given by 31 January 2013.
