Description:
The English Language Improvement Program in the Linguistics Department at Ohio University is hiring a Lecturer who can serve as a vital member of our program team in teaching courses for graduate and undergraduate students. We are seeking an educator who is qualified to teach high-proficiency English language learners as well as native- English speaking students in both writing and speaking. We are a dynamic program offering opportunities for professional growth and development. This is a full-time position with optional summer teaching. Main duties will be: - Teach up to twelve classroom hours per week in either writing, speaking, or reading. In particular, this Lecturer will teach a number of ESP (English for Specific Purposes) courses - Assist with course development and textbook selection - Assist with SPEAK test administration and rating - Assume a Program Service responsibility based on program need and faculty interest - Attend faculty meetings and maintain appropriate office hours - Participate in other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: - MA or PhD in Applied Linguistics or closely related field; Linguistics coursework required - Minimum of three years teaching experience in a US university - Consistent demonstration of excellence in teaching through evaluations and letters of reference - Experience in a US university teaching non-native English speakers academic writing and oral communication OR teaching non-native English speakers freshman composition courses - Evidence of sophisticated academic writing ability - Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills - Collaborative approach to working with a diverse group of staff, faculty, and students - Collegial, professional demeanor - Native or native-like English language proficiency - Proficiency in or experience studying a second language - Willingness to undergo training to teach scientific or business writing if needed Preferred Qualifications: - PhD or ABD - Broad range of coursework in the sciences or social sciences, to teach ESP courses - Experience presenting at national/international conferences and/or publishing in academic journals - International travel or living experience - Recent experience with using technology for language learning For more information and application details, visit the application URL below.
