A few days ago, we sent out a message saying that we had opened an Amazon Store for LINGUIST. We have appended this message below, for those of you who missed it. We received a great deal of positive feedback, but we were also asked to open stores in other countries than the USA, so that you could buy items without incurring extra shipping costs. We have done so, and we now have Amazon stores in the USA, Canada, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. The links to each of these are: USA: http://astore.amazon.com/linguistlist-20 Canada: http://astore.amazon.ca/linguistlistc-20 Germany: http://astore.amazon.de/linguistlistd-21 France: http://astore.amazon.fr/linguistlistf-21 United Kingdom: http://astore.amazon.co.uk/linguistlist-21 We've tried to make this as easy as possible for you. Each link to the store will connect to a menu from which you will be able to choose the store nearest you. You can then buy the item there. Please remember, however, that Amazon does not sell all books in all countries. In some cases you will receive a message that it is not available in that store. For most books this should not be the case, however. We do not as yet have stores in Japan, China, Italy or Spain, simply because we have not yet received permission to open a store yet in these countries. But we will certainly add them when the opportunity arises. Message sent out on Friday, May 5, 2012 As you all know, economic times have not been good, and financial support from our school has been cut back in the past year. In an attempt to recoup our losses, we have decided to experiment with a LINGUIST List Amazon Store or "astore" (http://linguistlist.org/store). An astore can be customized, and we've specialized ours to feature linguistic books announced on LINGUIST List. But you can also buy anything else you need there, from electronics like audio recorders and hard drives to shoes and movie downloads. It's a convenient way for users to support the LINGUIST List just by doing their normal Amazon shopping. For every purchase made through the LINGUIST List Amazon Store, LINGUIST List receives a small percentage of the sales-price. The more items purchased, the larger the percentage. For example, if more than 7 items are purchased from the LINGUIST List Amazon Store in one month, LINGUIST List will receive 6% of the revenue from each sale. These funds go straight to supporting the graduate students who maintain the LINGUIST List website and mailing list. What we like best about this store is that there is absolutely no cost to you. When you buy products through the LINGUIST List Amazon Store, you don't pay a penny more than you otherwise would on Amazon. You pay exactly the same price as usual, and LINGUIST List benefits. Everyone wins! Remember that while we've focused on putting together a broad, well organized inventory of linguistics-related books, you can buy any Amazon product through the LINGUIST List Store. Simply go the LINGUIST List Amazon Store, select the product category in the top left corner of the astore page, and search for the product. Anything at all that you find and buy through the LINGUIST List Store will generate revenue for LINGUIST List, whether it's a linguistics book or a washing machine! To cut down on your shipping costs, we have opened two stores, one in the USA at (http://astore.amazon.com/linguistlist-20), and one in Europe, at (http://astore.amazon.co.uk/linguistlist-21). We plan to create stores in other countries where Amazon has a presence. Use the one nearest to you, and help LINGUIST! Thank you for supporting LINGUIST List! If you have any questions or comments about the Amazon Store, don't hesitate to send them to us.
